Why would anyone want to invest in domain names? Surely that sort of business is for pasty-faced geeks who wear 2-inch thick glasses and never see the light of day? (Ok, so I've described myself, except I dont wear glasses) Why get into domaining? Well there's no reason other than I want to earn a shipload of money. Quite simply I want to generate a steady stream of income. Careful domain name investment will bring a good return for my money. The internet has been profitable for me. I have made good money off a variety of different ventures. Much of these profits were invested in the stock market. Unfortunately I entered the market at the wrong time and lost quite a lot of money as a result of the recent sub-prime mortgage collapse. Though the market is bound to bounce back at some stage, it doesnt look like happening in the next few months. So I made the decision to get rid of my margin loan and cut my losses by selling all of my stocks. Since then, I've been looking for new ways to generate money online and I've settled on domain investment. I'd always tinkered with web-design and had even purchased a few domains on occassion. But in the last month particularly, I've made domain investment my game. A few positives I can see in this industry: - The internet is still a rapidly growing medium and market.
- Domains offer good returns as a long-term investment as well providing the opportunity for revenue making in the short-term.
- There is also a good chance of making massive return in a short period of time. For example, fund.com recently sold for $10 million.
Now I don't own anything quite as lucrative as fund.com and, I am not expecting to get rich over night. I'm already realising there is a lot to learn if I am going to be successful in this venture.
I am working towards several aims for this project. - I want to develop a good portfolio of domains. Since, I am still finding my way in this industry, I just want to have a smallish sized portfolio of 200-300 good domains.
- I want to learn how to trade domains for a profit.
- I want to monetize and develop my domains so that by the end of 2008 I am generating an average of $55 a day in revenue. This equates to $20 000 a year.
To do well in this industry, you must work hard and make sensible decisions. I have already made several mistakes. I'm realising that when it comes to domaining, good information is crucial. The more you research, the more you will be able to make informed decisions and the less mistakes you will make. In this blog, I will keep you up to date with my successes, my mistakes and the lessons I learn along the way. I hope that my experiences will be of benefit to you.
